Getting ready for the start of the 2010-2011 season! The Vital Spaces company is entering its second year - so we're getting ready to lead workshops at various Devon County secondary schools, as well as continuing our film workshops at Torbay Youth Centres.
Company facilitators will be re-affirming their commitments and applications for new participants will be accepted during October.
Interested in becoming involved? Beware: the application process is quite rigorous, and extensive experience working with young people from challenging backgrounds is required. Additionally, an enhanced CRB check and extensive experience working with AD techniques are highly recommended before submitting an application. That said, it might just be the best thing you'll ever do. :) It certainly was a rewarding experience for the five Regeneration Film Project facilitators and the eight Proof of Identity performers last year.
And for me?
It's been hugely challenging - the difficulties that many of these youth centres face in working with young people from deprived circumstances is incredible. Watching youth workers who gladly join in a bit of documentary film making and have a laugh with the young people while doing it? Inspiring stuff. I'm glad the project's got two more years to go.
